Getting started / usage
Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. Everything runs on the phone. The watch is recommended, since mirroring, haptics, and wrist logging are a big part of the experience, but it is never required. On a paired FTMS machine you get live speed, distance, and grip heart rate with no watch at all.

Which AIs work?

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot (through a Copilot Studio agent), and any client that speaks MCP. Capabilities and setup differ per client; see the connect-your-AI guide for setup steps and the Why Parameter page for what that means in practice.

Does it work without iCloud?

The app keeps working locally: build, run, and log workouts as usual. Plan sync between devices and the AI connection pause until iCloud is back.

Why can't I edit an AI-planned workout directly?

You copy it, then edit the copy. The AI’s original and your version are both kept, so your AI can see what you changed and learn from it.

What happens if the AI changes my plan mid-workout?

Nothing, until you’re done. Your running session keeps its snapshot of the plan, and the log gets a “plan changed mid-session” badge so the history is honest about it.

Why was my workout marked "Partial"?

Short duration or skipped segments and sets make Parameter suggest Partial. It’s a suggestion, not a verdict; override it and the override sticks.

Is there an Android or web app?

No. Parameter is iPhone and Apple Watch only, and we’d rather say so plainly than string you along.

Can I log classes from Peloton or other apps?

Yes. Put the class on your plan, deep-link into its app from Parameter, and afterward link the resulting HealthKit workout back into your log. One plan, one history.

Does it work without any AI?

Yes. With nothing connected, Parameter is a clean manual logger and executor, free. The AI connection is the only paid part.

Can I import from other apps?

Not directly in v1. But if your old app exports a CSV or PDF, your AI can read it and write the plan, or the history’s broad strokes, into Parameter.

Machine control
Which machines work?

Bluetooth FTMS-compatible treadmills, bikes, and rowers. For everything else, the console table flattens any interval workout into numbered steps you key in by hand.

Will Parameter start or stop my treadmill?

Never. It adjusts speed, incline, resistance, and power, but the machine starts and stops only when you do it. The one Stop button in the app is gated behind an explicit confirmation.

What if I change the speed on the console myself?

Parameter follows your override and records it as a deviation. It never fights you for the controls.

Can my machine's console show my heart rate?

Often. Parameter can broadcast your wrist heart rate to the console’s chest-strap pairing menu, even on machines with no FTMS support. It works with many consoles, not every one; some that accept real chest straps still won’t pair with the broadcast.

AI & data
What exactly can my AI see and do?

It can read your profile, equipment, and workout history, and write plans and workouts. It can never write your logs, your profile, or your equipment. The boundaries are per-tool and hard-coded.

How do I disconnect an AI?

Settings → AI connection → Revoke, per client. It takes effect in about a minute. New connections trigger a “Was this you?” alert, so nothing connects quietly.

Can Parameter's developer see my data?

No, not even in principle. Your data lives in your iCloud, and Parameter runs no workout database. The full story is on the Privacy page.

Billing
What does the $1/month actually gate?

Only the AI connection. Logging, execution, the watch app, machine control, history, and export are free, and stay free.

How does the trial work?

14 days, the full app including the AI connection. Apple shows the price, $1/month, before the trial starts and notifies you before it converts. No card details go to us; it’s a standard App Store subscription.

How do I cancel?

Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions → Parameter → Cancel. Same as every App Store subscription. No email, no retention flow, no “are you sure” survey.

What about refunds?

Apple handles App Store refunds directly; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t process them ourselves, but at a dollar, the stakes are low.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

Nothing. It’s your iCloud; we couldn’t hold it hostage if we wanted to. The AI connection pauses; logging, execution, history, and export keep working, free.

Is there Family Sharing or a lifetime option?

No. Month to month at $1, cancel anytime. At this price a lifetime tier would just be a worse deal in disguise.

Troubleshooting
What happens if the app crashes mid-workout?

Nothing is lost. Every check-off and transition is saved to disk before the screen advances, so reopening offers to resume or save as partial, and the recovered HealthKit session reattaches with all its samples.

The watch isn't syncing.

Open Parameter on both devices and mirroring resumes automatically. If it doesn’t, check both are signed into the same Apple ID and that iCloud for Parameter is on.

My AI can't see my workouts.

Check the connector is enabled in your AI client, then check Parameter → Settings → AI connection shows the client as connected. If in doubt: revoke and re-add. It takes a minute.

Starting over with a connection.

Remove the connector in your AI client, revoke it in Parameter (one tap), then add the URL fresh.

Why didn't I get a morning summary today?

It’s suppressed while your status isn’t “ok”, and it needs iOS notification permission. Set your status back and it returns.
